How to Choose the Right Cards for Your Collection

01

Pick the Game That Fits How You Want to Engage

Trading card games split into two big use cases: collecting and playing. Pokémon is the most popular collector-driven TCG in the world right now — sealed product appreciation, alt arts, full arts, and graded chase cards drive the secondary market. Magic: The Gathering is the deepest player game in TCGs, with formats like Commander, Standard, Modern, and Pioneer driving constant demand for singles and sealed product. Other TCGs (One Piece, Lorcana, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragon Ball Super, Star Wars Unlimited) blend both worlds.

02

Choose the Right Sealed Product

Sealed TCG product comes in several formats. Booster boxes and booster bundles deliver the most packs and best per-pack price for ripping. Elite Trainer Boxes (ETBs) and Premium Collection boxes mix packs with promo cards, sleeves, dice, and accessories — great for new players or as gifts. Collection boxes and tins typically include a few packs plus a guaranteed promo card or oversized card. For Magic specifically, Commander Decks and Bundle products are aimed at players starting or upgrading decks.

03

Buy Authentic, and Buy Smart

TCG is one of the most counterfeited card markets in the world, especially Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!. Resealed booster boxes, fake singles, and counterfeit sealed product are all common in unauthorized channels. Always buy sealed product from trusted dealers sourced through authorized distribution, and verify graded cards through PSA/BGS/CGC cert numbers. For high-value singles, grading is the safest path. We run monthly bulk PSA submissions and can also help you authenticate cards in-store.

Frequently Asked Questions

What TCGs do you carry at CardChasers?

We carry Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, and a rotating selection of other trading card games like One Piece, Disney Lorcana, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragon Ball Super, and Star Wars Unlimited. Browse our dedicated Pokémon, Magic, and Other TCG collection pages for the current inventory, or visit our Laval shop for the full selection.

What’s the difference between a booster box and an Elite Trainer Box (ETB)?

A booster box is just packs — typically 36 packs of Pokémon or 30 packs of Magic, with no extras. It’s the best price-per-pack format. An Elite Trainer Box (ETB) is a smaller box that bundles 8–10 packs with accessories (sleeves, dice, damage counters, deck box, promo card). ETBs are great gifts and starter products; booster boxes are better for serious collectors and players who just want to rip packs.

Should I buy sealed product or singles?

It depends on your goal. Buy sealed if you enjoy the thrill of opening packs, want to chase rare hits, or are buying for long-term holding (sealed Pokémon in particular has a strong appreciation history). Buy singles if you want a specific card for your collection, deck, or PC — it’s almost always cheaper than ripping packs hoping to pull what you want.

Are the TCG products sold at CardChasers authentic?

Yes. We source sealed TCG product through authorized distribution and inspect all singles before listing. We’re well aware of how prevalent counterfeit TCG product is, and we take authentication seriously. Graded cards come in their original PSA, BGS, or CGC slabs with verifiable cert numbers.

Can I grade my TCG cards through CardChasers?

Yes. We run monthly bulk PSA submissions out of our Laval shop, which works for both sports cards and TCG (Pokémon especially). We can pre-screen your cards in person to help you pick the best candidates before submitting. CGC is also a popular option specifically for TCG — ask in-store for guidance.

Do you ship TCG cards across Canada and the US?

Yes, we ship across Canada and the United States from our Vimont, Laval location. Local collectors can also pick up orders in-store at 1712 Boulevard des Laurentides, seven days a week.
